Top 5 Healthy Habits That Make You Fat

In today’s world we daily make habits regarding our diet, weight and plans to follow for staying healthy. There is so much said about what we should eat and how much should we eat however still many of us are unaware of what is making us fat. Mentioned below are some of the healthy habits that we follow to stay fit however they are actually helping us gain weight.

1. Use of artificial sweeteners
Artificial sweeteners have become very common and are used by almost all of us as a sugar replacement to reduce weight. Artificial sweeteners are 7000 times sweeter than sugar and tend to desensitize the taste buds. When ever we eat food our body expects some calories. When we use zero calorie artificial sweeteners our body does not get calories and we do not feel full. This leads to over eating and adds on to the weight. Whenever we buy something from grocery stores the words to watch out for are Saccharin, Aspartame, Sucralose, Neotame and acesulfame which is generally found in diet sodas. This habit can be changed by using fruits as sugar replacements and controlling the sugar cravings.

2. Cutting fat from the diet
Most of us think that fat is the biggest enemy of a healthy body. When we go on diet to reduce weight, we generally buy products with low fat content. These foods with low fat content use a lot of sugar to compensate which adds on to the body weight. Apart from these not all fats are unhealthy. Studies have shown that consumption of moderate levels of monosaturated fats found in foods like Avocados, olives and nuts are good for the health and help in weight reduction. However foods which contain excess fat such as pizza cheese and burgers etc should be avoided.

3. Multitasking while eating
Doing other things while eating is a common habit that all of us have. Most of us watch TV while eating or talk to our friends and relatives while eating. Some people read newspaper while eating and some work on their mobiles and laptops. Doing all these things while you are eating takes the attention away from food to these things which most of the times result in over eating and ingestion of extra calories. Eating while multitasking also requires more time to eat and we do not get full easily over a course of time. This habit can be broken by avoiding doing anything while eating and focusing only on what we are eating.

4. Over eating of fruits
There is no doubt about the fact that fruit are highly nutritious and are a rich source of essential vitamins and minerals. However some people skip Meals and replace them with large bowls of fruit salad. Using fruits in smoothie which contains dairy products increases its calorie count and no matter how healthy it is, a calorie is a calorie. Some fruits are also high on sugar content and may lead to weight gain. A simple way of avoiding this habit is to eat a moderate amount of fruits and avoid their over consumption.

5. Drinking more than required water
Water again is very good for our health however there is a limit to its intake. When we take extra volumes of water our kidney remain busy in treating this water and does not get the time to perform other important functions it is supposed to which leads to weight gain. Some chemicals found in packaged drinking water like bisphenol also are responsible for weight gain.
