Texas-Style BBQ Sauce Recipe

Texas-Style BBQ Sauce

YIELD: approximately 16 fl. oz.

Ingredients

1 c. light beer (I used Natural Light brand beer here but you can substitute any light beer. Just keep it light – you don’t want to be throwing any Guinness into this sauce.)
1 c. tomato paste
1/2 c. white wine vinegar
1/4 c. lemon juice, freshly squeezed
1/4 c. light brown sugar, tightly packed
2 tbsp. granulated onion
2 tbsp. granulated garlic
1 tbsp. cumin, ground
1 tbsp. ancho chile, ground
1 tbsp. Tabasco

Directions:

Whisk all of the ingredients together in a large, heavy-bottomed pan and bring to a boil.

Reduce heat to medium-low and cook for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the sauce is fragrant and has thickened slightly.

Remove cooked sauce from heat and pass through a fine mesh sieve.

Bottle and use immediately or store, covered and refrigerated, for up to 3 weeks.
