Homemade Soft Pretzels Recipe

Ingredients

1 1/2 cups warm water
2 tbsp of organic sugar
3 tsp sea salt
6 cups of all-purpose flour
4ounces unsaltedmelted butter
1 cup of margarine
2/3 cup baking soda

for eggwash:
1 large egg yolk beaten with 1 tablespoon water
for dusting:
Pretzel salt

Directions

Preheat your microwave oven to 350 degrees F. Lightly grease 2 half-sheet pans with butter, Set aside.

Mix the water, sugar and sea salt in a bowl. Leave it for 5 minutes or when mixture starts to foam.

Using an electric mixer with hook attachment, mix flour and butter on low speed until well combined. Increase speed to medium and knead until dough is smooth and it does not stick to the side of the bowl, for about 4-5 minutes.

Transfer the dough into another bowl brushed with vegetable oil and seal with plastic wrap. Choose a warm place and leave it for 50 to 55 minutes until the dough has doubled in size.

In a saucepan or a roasting pan, heat theĀ  water and the baking soda until it boils.

While waiting for theĀ  water to boil, roll the dough into a slightly oiled surface and evenly divide into 8 parts. Work out each piece of dough.

Create a U-shape, holding both ends, cross the dough over each other and press onto the bottom the pretzel. Arrange into the prepared pan.

Drop the pretzels in the boiling water at one at a time, for around 40 seconds. Take the pretzels out of the water and put it back into the half sheet pan. Brush each pretzel with the eggwash and sprinkle it with a salt.

Cook until pretzels turn golden brown , for about 15 minutes. Let it cool for at least 4-6minutes before serving it. Enjoy!
