Valentine Cookies

Ingredients

1 cup butter
1/2 cup shortening
3 cups sugar
3 free range eggs
1 cup milk
5 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon kosher salt
1 teaspoon squiz of lemon
3 teaspoons fresh lemon juice
Icing
Your favorite liquid food colorings
Preparation

1. Beat butter and shortening at medium speed with an electric mixer until foamy and slowly add sugar while continue beating. Add eggs and milk,beat until well blended.

2. Mix flour and butter mixture, until blended. Add lemon and fresh lemon juice. Divide dough into 4 equal portions; wrap each in plastic wrap, and chill at least 2 – 6 hours.

3. Cut with a 3-inch heart-shaped cookie cutter, and place on lightly greased baking sheets. Repeat procedure with remaining dough portions.

4. Bake at 350° for 10 minutes or until lightly browned. Let cool on baking sheets 2 minutes and cool 20 minutes on another tray until completely cool.

5. Prepare about 1/2 cup Icing. Tint remaining Icing with your favorite food coloring. Spread tinted icing on tops of cookies. Garnish with sprinkles or different colors on top to make it look more presentable.
